The story of the images of New MexicoI spent my early years and attended high school in Artesia, New Mexico. I am drawn to the diverse beauty of the landscape and the people of the state. Many of the photographs in this gallery were made in the Ruidoso/Cloudcroft area of Southeastern New Mexico. The beauty and tranquility of the mountains brings me closer to God each trip. I try to capture the feelings behind the photos. The majesty of horse racing at Ruidoso Downs has always attracted me to the strength of both the animals and the riders in their colors. The cemetery pictures have a deeper meaning in the depth of my character. In 1972, I was working for a group of Hispanic civil rights organizations and I learned about a segregated cemetery that had been cared for by families. In later years I went back to photograph the cemetery and found that the fence had been removed (that separated the white and Hispanic areas). While the fences were down the weeds still show a difference in maintenance levels. See my blog on photography at: Random Thoughts of a Photographer
